Spring 2020 | Hard Times, Gospel Values - Introduction and Cover Photo

Reflections cover with image of open tombThis Spring 2020 Reflections is focused on economic inequality and how people of faith can respond. Various pieces here were written before the recent pandemic suddenly complicated all economic, social, and global questions for the foreseeable future. We nevertheless believe the relevance of these articles and interviews will continue to shine after the worst of the coronavirus crisis is over.

Covid is inflicting pain in every economic corner, most existentially on the least of these. Perhaps the catastrophe will rewrite some rules of behavior and conscience, and new roadmaps of compassion will eventually be drawn. The DNA of Christian faith—belief in a God who walked among the sick—will help articulate such a healing, both spiritual and economic. We hope you find much to read here, starting with Dean Greg Sterling’s letter, the interview with YDS theologian Willie Jennings, and the essay by YDS theologian Kathryn Tanner. There is poetry as well—more poems than we’ve ever featured before.
