Poem: “Life’s Rainbow”

By Sheila Banani

Beginnings are lacquer red
      fired hard in the kiln
      of hot hope;

Middles, copper yellow
      in sunshine,
      sometimes oxidize green
      with tears; but

Endings are always indigo
      before we step
      on the other shore.
